Description

It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to negotiate on a sole source basis with Cygnus Corporation to modify NLM Contract N01-LM-1-3526 for Indexing of Biomedical Literature. The contract will be modified to add gene indexing as part of the MEDLINE indexing process. The contractor will add gene indexing by identifying genes and proteins reported in the biomedical journal literature, locating the corresponding record for the gene or protein in the gene-specific database (currently LocusLink) of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), and creating an annotated link between the MEDLINE citation and the NCBI database record. Authority 41 USC 253 (c) (1) as set forth in FAR 6.302-1. Inherent duplication of cost to the Government and unacceptable delays make competition unfeasible. See Numbered Note 22.
