Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b)(1), with Agilent Technologies, Inc. of Engelwood, CO, for the purchase of the following items: (1) Laser Head for a model 5528A laser measurement system; (2) Measurement Display; (3) Laser Head Cable; and (4) Linear Interferometer. The equipment shall be used in a modified design of a contact displacement micrometer. Several of these micrometer systems have been designed and built using this HP laser system as the length scale for the instrument. The mounting and positioning hardware on the instrument have been tailored to the specifications, size and mounting connections of the HP system as a result.***Sole source determination is based on Agilent Technologies, Inc., being the sole manufacturer of this equipment and this equipment being the only equipment that will allow NIST to complete the modification of the micrometer without redesigning the current mounting hardware and completing an undetermined amount of stability work to determine the degredation of the laser frequency calibration. ***Delivery shall be FOB Destination, Gaithersburg, MD, and is required within 60 days after receipt of order.***The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 employees.***No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations, however, responses received by August 22, 2001, will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
