Description
The U.S. Army Tank-automotive Armaments Command -- Armament Research Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC) is currently conducting a market survey and analysis to identify if a Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Muzzle Velocity Radar (MVR) technology is available that can be used on the M109A6 Paladin Self Propelled Howitzer System. The MVR shall be capable of accurately measuring muzzle velocities from 150 to 1500 meters per second for all U.S. Field Artillery 155mm fuze/projectile/propellant/charge combinations. The MVR shall be immune to false triggering and shall only trigger after a round has exited the gun tube. The Muzzle Velocity Radar shall be capable of operating with +28 VDC (nominal) vehicle power; provide muzzle velocities directly to the Paladin Automatic Fire Control System (AFCS) Computer via MIL-STD 1553 and/or other digital interface (i.e. RS422, RS232, Universal Serial Bus, etc.); be capable of operating at temperatures between -25F to +140F; and meet all other typical MIL-STD-810 environmental exposures for a military weapon system, i.e. humidity, sand & dust, salt fog, shock, vibration, etc. Interested companies are invited to respond by providing descriptions of their commercial items, information regarding experience with discriminating between MVR triggering/non- triggering environments and relative vehicle motion and settling, along with test results and any other additional pertinent information to the US Army TACOM-ARDEC. Upon review of the submitted material, the Government may request an oral presentation from the contractor(s) for information exchange. This announcement constitutes a Request for Information Synopsis and MARKET SURVEY. Information obtained is for planning purposes only. It does not constitute an invitation for sealed bids or a request for proposal nor is it to be construed as a commitment by the Government. The Government will not reimburse contractors for the costs of responding to this announcement. In response to this market survey, interested parties shall provide literature on current capabilities and efforts. Proprietary information should be properly identified. Your submission should include organization name, address, point of contact and phone number. The response should be submitted by 15 August 2001 and sent to U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Center for Contracting and Commerce, AMSTA-AQ-APB, Building 10, ATTN: Al Heller, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000.
