Description

This is a special notice issued by Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC), management and operating contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy's Savannah River Site near Aiken, South Carolina. WSRC wishes to determine public interest in a licensing agreement for the manufacture and commercial sale of the Dead Reckoning Pedometer (DRP) System. The DRP System measures, records, and enables monitoring of a person's location within an enclosure when visible reference points are limited or nonexistent as well as out of doors in situations where use of conventional Global Positioning System (GPS) is not optimal. The system shows the person wearing it, in real time, where he is and what path he took to get there from the point at which he entered the structure. For example, the displayed path could be used by a firefighter inside a burning building to retrace his steps to exit the building or a law enforcement officer in foot pursuit over rough terrain or under a canopy of trees to return to the point of origination. The system comprises a sensing package, a local data receiver/display unit, a transmitter, and a remote base station. Using small magnets and magnetometer sensors attached to the person's shoes, the system sends location information to the local data receiver for immediate display. Location and path information also is transmitted to the remote base station. Here, persons outside of the structure/area can monitor and give direction to the person(s) inside the structure/area.
