Description

The contractor shall fabricate, demonstrate, and deliver a MES (Mine Effect Simulator) Volcano Trainer system comprised of 5 canisters and 1 reloading system. This effort modifies existing Alliant Tech Systems Part Number 28069958. The MES Volcano trainer shall deploy a quantity of MES munitions equal to the existing stack of munitions found in its tactical counterpart. The deployed MES shall form a pattern that approximates as closely as possible the dispersion pattern of its tactical counterpart, and shall be dispersed in a manner that it presents no additional threat to the firing platform as the tactical version. This training simulator shall be an assembly that has the same weight and exterior dimensions as the tactical Volcano canister. The MES Volcano training simulator shall have the same electrical and mechanical interfaces as the tactical Volcano canister and shall provide the same out-of-line safety features and electrical connections as the tactical Volcano canister. A replaceable reload module that contains the same energetics and safeties as the tactical version shall replace the slider housing assembly and barrier plate of the tactical Volcano. This contract shall be a 365 day effort. The Government intends to award this requirement on a sole source basis to Alliant Tech Systems (ATK), 600 Second St. NE, Hopkins, MN 55343.
