Description
The U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey has a requirement to design, fabricate, bench-test and deliver a fin stabilized wind tunnel model with adaptive material to be used for the fins. This will be used for testing in the TACOM-ARDEC wind tunnel. We are investigating an autonomous, seeker projectile for small arms applications. This projectile shall have the capability of performing in flight course corrections, for example, change its ballistic trajectory, in order to engage maneuvering targets. An adaptive material fin moves by applying electrical energy to the material. No gears, motors or levers are required. The material itself adapts to a new shape when electrical energy is applied. This new technology shall save space and weight in the projectile, making it feasible to have a small caliber autonomous seeker projectile with moving fins as a maneuver mechanism. This is a small business set-aside. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 12. The Request for Quote (RFQ) will be posted on the TACOM-ARDEC Acquisition Center website located at http://procnet.pica.army.mil on or about May 21. Responses to this notice will be provided to the following e-mail addresses: kgerould@pica.army.mil or mondello@pica.army.mil. See Numbered Note 1.
