Description
The US Army, Office of the Project Manager for Tank and Medium-caliber Armament Systems (OPM TMAS) is seeking qualified sources for System Development and Demonstration (SDD) and production for a 120mm tank fired, anti-personnel canister cartridge, XM1028. The cartridge is intended to be used against dis-mounted Anti-Tank Guided Missile Teams (ATGM). The cartridge is to be fired from the M1A1/M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank with the M256 smoothbore cannon. It is the Government's intention to limit competition to US/Canada firms. The range requirements for the canister cartridge are: 200-500 meters (threshold) and 100-700 meters (objective). The requirement is to defeat equal to or greater than 50% of a 10 man squad with 1 shot and equal to or greater than 50% of a 30 man platoon with 2 shots. The solicitation will include a requirement to meet a Performance Specification. Engineering design/testing data performed to date will be provided for information. The SDD effort will contain an initial 9 month optimization design phase which will culminate with a Design Evaluation Test (DET) conducted by the Government to assess the performance of the contractor's design. There will be a second 9 month follow-on phase for the contractor to demonstrate the proposed production process by manufacturing qualification hardware and for the Government to conduct a Product Qualification Test (PQT). The contract will also contain production options: 2,000 for Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) and 14,000 for full rate production. Should funding become available, options for approximately 20,000 additional cartridges may be included. An Industry Day for Canister is planned for 17 May 2001 at Building 65 conference room at 1:00 pm (EST) at the US Army Armament, Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC), Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey.. Firms interested in sending representatives should notify Mrs. Joyce Tambini by 11 May 2001 via e-mail jtambini@pica.army.mil with the following: firm name, names of individuals attending, telephone numbers and e-mail addreses. Once this information is received, a chart depicting the required target array will be provided. See numbered Note 13.
