Description
In-Situ Pipe decontamination test is being conducted by the Hemispheric Center for Environmental Technology (HCET) at Florida International University (FIU). The purpose of this investigation is to identify and test innovative and commercially available nuclear and non-nuclear technologies for pipe decontamination, thereby ensuring that the safest and most cost-effective options are available and used during the decontamination of in-situ pipe. This study is to support to the Office of Science and Technology (OST). It is expected that three technologies will be tested. The technology demonstration will be conducted under standardized non-nuclear conditions at the HCET technology assessment site in Miami, Florida. Even though the mock up of the piping system at the HCET test facility are not radiological contaminated, all demonstrations should proceed as if being used within the nuclear facility. Technologies demonstrated will be evaluated based on performance, cost and health and safety factors. The test surrogates will be provided by HCET including carbon steel piping of size 10ft (L) x 6in (dia). The technologies expected to be evaluated in the study include thermal and mechanical decontamination technologies. The study will also include data collection on technology waste characteristics, with special emphasis on technologies with Zero-Added-Waste or minimal waste generation. Interested firms should send a letter of qualification stating how the firm meets the minimum requirements including: address, contact person, telephone, and fax numbers to Mr. Italo Intriago, Hemispheric Center for Environmental Technology, Florida International University, 10555 West Flagler Street, EAS Suite 2100 Miami, Florida 33174 no later than 02/16/01. The letter of qualification will be used to pre-qualify prospective companies. The request of proposal (RFP) will be available for the qualified firms approximately by 03/02/01. For any further inquiries please contact Italo Intriago at (305) 348-6554, email: italo@eng.fiu.edu, or Leonel Lagos at (305) 348-1810, email: leonel@eng.fiu.edu.
