Description
The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), 6801 Telegraph Road, Alexandria, Va 22310-3398 has a procurement requirement for Innovative Power Flow. 1.0 SCOPE 1.1 BACKGROUND (DTRA) provides x-ray source test capabilities for U.S. government agencies through various simulators. The technologies requiring maturation for these simulators include: 1) opening switches, 2) innovative concepts to effeciently transfer the power from capacitive store into the radiation load, and 3) high-fluence radiation sources with adequate spectral fidelity. This effort concentrates on the second technology area. In particular, this effort will provide conceptual design and analysis of innovative power flow technologies. To achieve higher efficiency of radiation production in plasma radiation sources, it is necessary to develop pulsed power technology that will increase the current available in (DTRA) simulators and decrease the time that the current is delivered in. Concepts in this area of recent interest include current multiplication schemes, flux compression schemes, and hybrids of these. 1.2 OBJECTIVES This effort has the objective of designing and analyzing current multiplication, flux compression, and related power flow concepts. 2.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS: NONE 3.0 REQUIREMENTS (TASKS): The contractor shall provide all the necessary personal equipment and resources to complete the following task: 3.1 TASK 1. INNOVATIVE POWER FLOW The contractor shall design and perform initial analysis of innovative power technologies of relevance to (DTRA) radiation simulators, including, but not limited to, current, multiplication, flux compression, and combined current multiplication with flux compression. Reports on the results of the analysis will be sent to (DTRA). 4.0 SCHEDULE: Delivery Date Description Biweekly Meeting with DTRA program manager to discuss concepts 13 MAC Contract Report on design and analysis
