- Description
- The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National Institutes of Health, intends to negotiate a three-year contract with the Medical Genome Centre at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University, using other than full and open competition, to identify mutagenized mice that harbor mutations leading to inherited hearing impairment at an early age in the natural life of the mouse. The contractor shall (1) utilize the 200 recessive pedigrees of chemically mutagenized mice maintained at the contractor's facility to produce at least 5,000 G3 (potentially homozygous) mutant mice per year; (2) perform high-throughput phenotypic screening of these 5,000 G3 mice to identify those carrying mutant genes responsible for hereditary hearing impairment; (3) determine the mouse chromosomal location of the affected gene; and (4) cryopreserve the sperm from the mutants identified as hearing impaired to enable shipment of these samples to other laboratories. The Medical Genome Centre at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University, is the only facility in the world with an established operational capacity to produce and test the quantity of mice required by this contract. Authority: 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1 -- Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services will Satisfy Agency Requirements. See Numbered Note 22.
