Description
MARKET SURVEY FOR UNCOOLED INFRARED FOCAL PLANE ARRAY (FPA) TECHNOLOGY. The Navy is issuing this Request for Information /Sources Sought synopsis as part of a market survey. This request for information is to gain knowledge in the advancements of uncooled infrared Focal Plane Array (FPA) technology. Uncooled Infrared FPAs have been in development for military applications since the late 1970s. Room temperature LWIR FPAs typically rely upon a thermal detection mode rather than the photovoltaic mode used for cyrogenic systems. The key drawbacks of uncooled FPAs relative to cryogenic FPAs are poorer sensitivity and slower response times. Development work on uncooled FPAs has therefore stressed improvements in their sensitivity. Uncooled Electro-Optics (EO) systems provide dramatic improvements in both cost and reliability as compared to the existing cooled technology in current United States Navy (USN) inventory. NAVSEA Crane has identified a need for a large quantity of practical shipboard Electro-Optic systems and is seeking information regarding these advancements of uncooled infrared FPA technology. Interested vendors are asked to provide a description of advancements in this area of technology and other supporting rationale that could be used to assess the ability of enhanced systems to meet the threshold requirements above. Interested vendors should provide information regarding this request for information to: Commander, NAVSURWARCEN Crane, Attn: Mr. Kyle Werner, Code 805C, Building 3291, 300 Highway 361, Crane, IN 47522. Technical questions can be addressed to Mr. Kyle Werner at (812) 854-6697. The Government may be interested in purchasing product samples. This notice does not constitute an Invitation for Bid (IFB) or a Request for Proposal (RFP) and it is not a commitment by the U.S. Navy to procure subject equipment. The Government is only seeking information and possible sources for future needs, if and when they arise. No solicitation document exists at this time. THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT INTEND TO AWARD A CONTRACT ON THE BASIS OF THIS REQUEST FOR INFORMATION OR OTHERWISE PAY FOR THE INFORMATION SOLICITED.
