Description

The United States Army has a need for a high energy, low vulnerability propellant in support of the ongoing Multi-role ETC Armament System for a Future Combat System development and MANTECH work at the TACOM-ARDEC. Energetic thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) based propellant formulations with RDX and CL20 have been shown to meet the required performance levels. As a propellant configuration has not yet been finalized, the manufacturer must have the flexibility to produce propellant with different geometries such as perforated granules, perforated sticks and flat sheets. Manufacturing operations must be capable of supporting propellant deliverables on the order of 1000 to 1500 kg in FY01and up to 2500 kg in FY02. Interested parties should submit a description of their experience with energetic thermoplastic elastomer ingredients and propellants and a detailed description of their current TPE and propellant manufacturing capabilities. The description should provide a gap analysis to identify any additional skills and technologies that are required in order to execute the program. Include a detailed plan and schedule of how these additional capabilities will be developed or obtained. Lead times for procuring or manufacturing RDX and CL20 should be discussed.
