Description
17. Training Area Roads Shoulders Erosion Repairs. The surface underlying the geotextile is not required to be worked to smooth any irregularities. The geotextile shall be laid on the existing contour and slopes. However, the are underlying the geotextile shall be groomed to remove any protrusions that could damage the geotextile. The ground under the edges of the fabric (2' inside and 2' outside the border of the fabric) will be tamped to reduce erosion in those areas once the stone is placed. Install geotextile. The selected sections of road shoulders will be lined with a nonwoven geotextile fabric along the ditch bottom and up the shoulders of the immediate banks. The nominal width of the geotextile will be 8'. In those areas where the ditch erosion and shoulder is more than 8', the geotextile will be sized as to extend 18" byond the limits of erosion. The geotextile will be fastened to the earth with 6" long spikes every 2' along the edges. The riprap shall be carefully placed ont he geotextile liner in such a manner that adjacent stones are in close contact and, in general, have their greatest dimensions across the slope. Rearranging of indivdual stones by mechanical equipment will be permitted to the extent necessary to obtain a reasonably well-graded distribution of stone sizes . The riprap will extend beyond the geotextile and lay on unprepared soil where the eroded area is wider than the geotextile. The riprap will extend up to the top of the slopes. The period of performance is 180 calendar days. Forth coming contract will be firm-fixed price. The estimated range forthis project is $25,000 to $100,000.
