THE 6TH NATO CIVIL MILITARY BLOOD CONFERENCE PART: SPECIAL NOTICES OFFADD: Armed Services Blood Program Office SUBJECT: The 6th NATO Civil-Military Blood Conference: "The World's Blood in the 21st Century." DESC: This conference will bring together the NATO Nations and the Partner Nations to define and discuss the future status of blood availability and utilization in civil and military emergencies. Conference to be held November 9-10 at Marriott Metro Center, 775 12th Street, NW, Washington, DC. The conference will stimulate cooperative exchange of medical and scientific information and techniques relevant to military contingencies and civil emergencies. Topics proposed for discussion include: emergency preparedness; blood products on the battlefield in the 21st century; civil-military integration; landmines/terrorism; natural disasters; NATO in the Balkans; transfusion transmitted diseases in emergencies; blood donors in the new century; and, blood components and alternatives. The Conference will provide the attendee an understanding of the history and evolving technology of military blood support. It will offer an overview of blood programs in the civil strife and military actions of the Balkans and the earthquake in Turkey. It will explain the problems of transfusion transmitted diseases and explore potential solutions. The attendee will also participate in the review of several national blood programs and the movement toward solutions in national self-sufficiency, military interoperability, and international harmonization. Plenary sessions are planned for general topics, with specific topics reserved for breakout sessions, round table discussions, and presentation of scientific papers and posters. CONFERENCE EXHIBITS: A significant portion of this conference will be devoted to vendor exhibits in the areas of blood and blood products usage, storage, donation, blood substitutes, and the future of blood usage in civilian and military emergencies. EXHIBIT INFORMATION: If your organization is interested in exhibiting at this International forum on the future of blood collection, use, and storage, the Armed Services Blood Program Office cordially invites you to exhibit your product(s) to International decision-makers during this exciting, informative conference. Tabletop exhibit spaces are available to interested organizations on a first-come, first-served basis for $1500 each. Due to a limited number of spaces, exhibitors will be limited to one space each. To maximize exhibitor exposure, there are a number of functions that will draw conference attendees to your booth including morning and afternoon breaks, and an evening reception in the exhibit hall on November 8, 2000. Universities, government agencies, foundations, associations, and other non-traditional vendor organizations that possess products or technologies with potential application in this area are encouraged to participate.
