The Social Security Administration (SSA) is seeking product information from vendors that can provide a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) enterprise desktop management/software release and distribution tool. The tool must be capable of running in the Microsoft Windows NT and UNIX environments, and will be tested as part of an enterprise solution for the following capabilities: Adaptability to a large-scale environment existing at SSA, which currently consists of over 2,000 Local Area Networks (LANs), including 4,000 servers and 92,000 workstations; Ability to distribute software on SSA_s increasing Windows NT and UNIX platforms; Client/server architecture, adaptable to SSA_s enterprise applications, which currently includes Microsoft_s office suite and a large number of SSA developed/COTS applications; Object-oriented technology; Determination of the differences between existing image and selected image on designated systems; Automatic management of target image on servers, workstations and notebook computers based on pre-established standards or policies; Ability to adjust server and workstation configurations automatically without manual intervention; Ability to constantly monitor for desktop standardization and have the capability to automatically update to the defined configuration; Script-less installation and distribution; Automatic detection and repair of software problems; Automated management of registry and system files; Ability to handle distribution of internet applications and active server pages; and A very robust roll-back feature/functionality and full checkpoint/restart capability. SSA is seeking a product which is easily used and administered in a large-scale enterprise. It is SSA_s intention to use and test the tool in support of existing operations, with the possibility of expanding to an enterprise solution.
