The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) requires a contractor to provide inspections of all VA clinical laboratories both in medical centers and outpatient clinics. The contractor must have deemed status from the Health Care Financing Administration. As required by 42 SFR Part 493, all laboratories must be inspected every two years. The inspection/reinspection must occur within two calendar years of the previous inspection. There can be no exceptions. The contractor must provide reports to the laboratory, the Pathology Regional Commissioners and the Enforcement Office in Headquarters. Inspectors must be knowledgeable in the areas being inspected. The vendor will define standards for inspectors. Contractor must describe in detail their inspection process, including their requirements for inspections and training provided to the inspectors. The Contractor will provide the laboratory with a copy of the standards used for the inspection. The laboratory will be notified of the need for inspection six monthsprior to the inspection date and provided with the necessary forms needed to apply for inspection. Accreditation decisions will be provided in writing within 90 days. The vendor must have the ability to coordinate and perform system inspections. SIC is 8071, $5 Million.
