The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) intends to issue a sole source contract to AVTEL Corporation, Mojave, CA. The contract will provide all personnel, materials, services, tools, engineering, and data required to support and operate three Navy DC-130A aircraft The contract will cover a period of twelve months to include a six month base period and a six month option. At present the subject aircraft are maintained using outdated U.S. Air Force maintenance publications which have been purged of most references to the DC-130A. This has resulted in existing maintenance publications not accurately supporting the DC-130A. During the term of the contract, the Navy will conduct a cost-benefit analysis to determine whether a competitive procurement will be feasible for out-year requirements. Having held the contract for the previous ten years AVTEL is the only contractor that presently possesses sufficient info to provide maintenance and spares support for the subject aircraft.
