25 -- LIGHTWEIGHT, DURABLE, CORROSION RESISTANT IDLER-WHEEL FOR THE AAAV DUE 030999 POC Mr. David C. Christy, (703) 492-3351 MARKET RESEARCH: The Direct Reporting Program Manager (DRPM) for the U.S. Marine Corps Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) is conducting market research to determine the commercial availability of a lightweight, durable, corrosion resistant idler-wheel for the AAAV. The Marine Corps wants to purchase a sufficient number of wheels (including tread) to carry out validation testing. The idler-wheel must be available by 1 March 2000 in order to conduct testing prior to selection. The idler-wheel must interface with the Bradley AFV idler hub and should weigh no more than 45 lbs with an average life of 6000 miles and full production procurement costs should be comparable to current lightweight aluminum idler-wheels now in service with the Army and Marine Corps. The idler-wheel must have an integral wear ring capable of withstanding track impact and abrasion loads. The idler-wheel must be capable of withstanding the extreme marine environment as well as the high structural loads occurring during routine operation of a 76,000 lb tracked vehicle. Additional information is available on the AAAV web page (http://www.aaav.hqi.usmc.mil) or can be requested through email to the following address: aeng@notes.hqi.usmc.mil. The AAAV point of contact is Mr. David Christy (703) 492-3351. The closing date for this request is 9 March 1999. Companies with existing idler-wheels or currently developing idler-wheels that would meet or exceed the above requirements should provide design characteristics and performance data to: DIRECT REPORTING PROGRAM MANAGER, AAAV, ATTN: Mr. William S. Story, Department 240, 991 ANNAPOLIS WAY, WOODBRIDGE, VA 22191-1215. THE SUBMISSION OF THIS INFORMATION IS NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS A COMMITMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT TO PAY FOR THE INFORMATION RECEIVED. NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENT EXISTS. Posted 02/09/99 (W-SN296408). (0040)
