B -- IN VIVO PARAMAGNETIC STUDIES FOR IDENTIFICATION OF MOLECULAR BIOMARKERS OF METAL-INDUCED LUNG DISEASE SOL RQ98-041 DUE 082598 POC Brenda Goodwin, 304/285-5882/Contracting Officer, Rex S. Wolfe, 304/285-5883 The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in Morgantown, WV has a requirement to investigate an occupational carinogen chromate to determine whether free radicals generated during reduction of chromium is involved in carcinogenesis in vivo. The Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover, New Hampshire has a unique facility with a custom built electron paramagnetic large cavity resonator used for non-invasive, low frequency paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. The Dartmouth Medical School also has a recognized expert in chromate-induced carcinogenesis, Dr. Kejian Liu. It is believed that Dartmouth Medical School is the only source with this whole body electron paramagnetic facilities, equipment and expertise available in the country that is compatible with the molecular biology requirements of data collection and continuos monitoring of changes in blood and body analysis as required by NIOSH. If there are other sources that feel they possess the capability to perform these studies on chromium reduction in whole animals, they are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature and references to Brenda L. Goodwin, Reference: RQ98-041, DHHS, PHS, CDC, NIOSH, ALOSH, 1095 Willowdale Road, Morgantown, WV 26505. If no organizations respond and demonstrate their capabilities within seven (7) days after posting of this notice, the Government intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Dr. Kejian Liu at Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover, NH.
