for information. The Francis Marion National Forest is seeking a source
for a machine to perform mechanical cutting, chipping and scattering of
understory/midstory vegetation, snags and logs on-the-ground without
damage to the overstory timber. All understory vegetation and snags
would be required to be cut to a height not to exceed six (6) inches
above ground line and cut vegetation and logs on-the-ground would be
shredded or chipped to meet the Forest Service definition of ten (10)
hour fuels. Ten (10) hour fuels are defined as pieces of any length,
not to exceed a diamter of one (1) inch and scattered so as not to
exceed an accumulated depth of six (6) inches. Posted 08/17/98
