The contractor will be responsible for providing 278 each Lt./Hvy. 5R, Blued, USMC Spec. Barrels for the Designated Marksman Rifle. These barrels are considered a commercial type item; therefore, it is anticipated that simplified acquisition procedures will be utilized. The Marine Corps Systems Command, Code CBG, has found through testing of numberous rifle barrels that the Cooper Precision Manufacturing Barrel is the only commercially available item which meets the requirements for the barrel of the Designated Marksman Rifle. These barrels were also found to be able to fire three times the amount of rounds with less wear then any of the other commercially available barrels tested. No RFP is available for competitive bidding; however, interested parties may submit a statement of capability for satisfying this requirement, to include descriptive literatureand pricing, within 15 days of this announcment to the contact person listed above. This announcement is not a request for competitive proposals; however, all proposals received by the date identified above will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
