F -- PROVIDE DE-IONIZED WATER FOR HIGH PRESSURE STEAM GENERATION AT POWER PLANT NO. 2 SOL NAES-O1 DUE 081398 POC Point Of Contract, Mrs. Bonnie J. Price, (732) 323-7556 Synopsis seeks possible sources for future acquisition. Offers are requested to provide literature, reports, data, etc. regarding systems or processes they can provide to accomplish the Navy's intended goal. A brief description of the current situation and the intended goal follows. The Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES)operates a high pressure steam plant. To provide the high quality water needed for the high pressure boilers the water is treated by adding Sodium Hydroxide to increase pH, is aerated and then passed through sand filters for iron removal. Following this process, ion exchange is employed to obtain the quality water needed for boiler use. Presently, regeneration of the ion exchange media is required periodically at the steam plant. Sodium Hydroxide and sulfuric acid are used when regenerating the ion exchange media. The NAES desires elimination of Sodium Hydroxide and Sulfuric Acid storage and use at the facility. Solution is to provide de-ionized water to the steam plant without the use of hazardous chemicals. De-ionized water is required at a rate of 250 gallons per minute. Maximum monthly usage is 6,000,000 gallons. Average monthly usage is 1,750,000 gallons. At times, usage has been less than 175,000 gallons per month. The raw water provided will be of the following quality: Raw Water Quality (ppm as CaCO3): Cations: Calcium 29, Magnesium 12, and Sodium 8. Anions: Bicarbonate (Alkalinity) 39, Chloride 1, and Sulfate 9. Carbon Dioxide 15ppm; Silica 13ppm; Iron 7ppm; Turbidity 60; Color 93; and pH 6.7. The water quality desired for steam use is as follows: De-ionized water quality: Conductivity 4mmho. You may submit your documentation by facsimile to Mrs. Bonnie J. Price at (732) 323-1471 or mail to OIC, NAVFAC Contracts, Building #5, Naval Air Engineering Station, Lakehurst, NJ 08733-5011. This is not a request for proposal nor does the Government intend to pay for the requested information. Additionally no telephone solicitations or office visitations for presentations will be accepted at this time although they may be authorized at a later date.
