26505-2888 B -- COMPLIATION OF WORK AND EXPOSURE HISTORY REGISTRY DATA TO STUDY
SILICA DUST EXPOSURE FACTORS IN DISEASE RISK SOL RQ98-019 DUE 051898
POC Brenda Goodwin, 304/285-5882/Contracting Officer, Rex S. Wolfe,
304/285-5883 The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
(NIOSH) in Morgantown, WV has a requirement to acquire compiled work
history, exposure histories, demographic data, vital status, and
silicosis registry data on approximately 16,000 employees representing
tin or tungsten mines or pottery factories in China. The information
obtained from this study will provide much needed insight into the
development of and possible prevention of silicosis and other
dust-induced lung disease, enabling NIOSH to move forward in its effort
to develop a national and international strategy for the elimination of
silicosis. The period of performance requires delivery on or about
December 31, 1999. It is believed that there is only one existing
cohort of this size with the necessary epidemiological data to analyze
the role of surface-bioavailable silica quartz dust in disease risk.
These work and exposure history and disease registry data or data
sources and associated workplace dust samples are only known to exist
from the Occupational Epidemiology School of Public Health, Tongji
Medical University in the Peoples' Republic of China. If there are
other sources capable of providing extensive epidemiological data on
work and exposure histories, they are invited to submit appropriate
documentation, literature and references to Brenda L. Goodwin,
Reference: RQ98-019, DHHS, PHS, CDC, NIOSH, ALOSH, 1095 Willowdale

their capabilities within seven (7) days after posting of this notice,
the Government intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with the
Occupational Epidemiology School of Public Health, Tongji Medical
University, China. This notice is issued for informational purposes.
