DoD Education Activity (DoDEA) is conducting market research to seek price and support information from qualified sources capable of supplying Pentium-based Desktop, Laptop and Server computer systems on a LEASE basis. Desktop systems must be 300 MHz or higher with minimum 32MB RAM, 6GB hard disk, 24x CD-ROM and 17" monitor. Laptops must be 200 MHz or higher with minimum 32MB RAM, 3GB hard disk, 12x CD-ROM, and 14" color display. Servers must be 300MHz or higher with minimum 64MB RAM, dual 6GB RAID hard disks, 24x CD-ROM, integrated 10/100 Fast Ethernet and 15" monitor. Windows NT operating software should normally be preinstalled. Estimated quantities for Desktops: lots of 100 to 5,000 per year; Laptops: lots of 100 to 1,000 per year; Servers: lots of 100 to 1,000 per year. Office automation software and other applications software is not required and should not be proposed as the computers are for school/student use. Warranty and general support provisions should be clearly explained for lease terms of 12, 24 and 36 months, with and without purchase options. While CONUS located schools may be included in any procurement, the majority of DoDEA sites are located in Europe and in the Pacific. Provisions for operation and support for both CONUS and OCONUS locations should be described. A roundtable discussion on worldwide leasing of computers is planned, if interest warrants.
