A -- ACTS -- ADVANCED COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY SATELLITE PROJECT PURSUING NEW RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES NASA Lewis Research Center is actively pursuing new research opportunities in: a. Demonstrating NASA and Other U.S. Government Use of Future Satellite Services, b. ATM, IP and Other Protocols Over Satellites Including Interoperability with Terrestrial Networks, c. Evaluating Satellite Inclined Orbit Operations, and d. New Ka-band Technology and Hardware Verification. Planning is currently underway to extend opportunities for experimentation through September, 2000. This is a unique opportunity which will not be available beyond September 2000. ACTS and the associated ground systems are a national communications research facility. Since its launch and deployment in September, 1993, over one-hundred different U.S. industry, government and university organizations have participated in the ACTS Experiment Program. NASA Lewis Research Center does not anticipate providing funding to experimenters through Grants, Contracts or any other procurements in support of the ACTS Extended Experiments Program. However,NASA Lewis Research Center does anticipate providing experimenters with access to the ACTS spacecraft communication channels and beacons, NASA earth station facilities, technical assistance, on-orbit spacecraft operations, network operations and other services. Experimenters selected for this Extended Experiments Program will be required to enter into Space Act Agreements.
