Lagos (305) 348-1810, DESC : The Hemispheric center for Environment
Technology (HCET) at Florida International University (FIU) is seeking
qualified suppliers to aid in an engineering study for the comparative
analysis of equipment dismantlement technologies for a variety of test
surrogates. The study is being performed to support the United States
Department of Energy Office of Science and technology. The study will
be conducted at the campus of FIU in Miami, Florida. The testing
surrogates will be provided by HCET. The surrogates include 4"and 6"
diameter pipes (schedule 40 steel), W6 x16 and W16 x 31 structural I --
beams (A36 grade steel), large process equipment, 1" thick metal plate
(A36 grade steel), concrete filled 6" diameter metal barricades,
galvanized electrical conduits, 1" diameter railings, 12" diameter
drainage pipe (cast iron) and tanks (3/4" thickness, carbon steel) that
would require dismantlement. The surrogates will not be radiologically
contaminated. Each technology will be tested upon its ability of
dismantling the given surrogates. The technologies in the study will
include mechanical dismantlement and thermal dismantlement
technologies. All other applicable technologies are encouraged to
respond. The qualified suppliers will be asked to optimize the
operation as it is applicable to each surrogate. Qualified firms shall
have five years minimum experience in nuclear decontamination and two
years minimum experience with the proposed technology. The qualified
firms are to provide references of nuclear decontamination jobs
completed. Interested firms should send a letter of qualification
stating how the firm meets the minimum requirements including: address,
contact person, telephone, and fax numbers to Mr. Leonel Lagos,
Hemispheric Center for Environmental Technology, Florida International
University, 10555 West Flagler Street, EAS Suite 2100, Miami, Florida
33174, no later than 03/31/98. The letter of qualification will be
used to prequalify prospective companies. The request for proposal
(RFP) will be available for the qualified firms approximately 04/09/98.
