International University's Hemispheric Center for Environmental
Technologies (FIU-HCET) and the Department of Energy are seeking
qualified D&D technology suppliers to conduct an engineering study for
the comparative analysis of surface removal decontamination. This
study is being performed to support the U.S. Department of Energy's
Environmental Management Objectives. These tests are being conducted at
the Florida International University campus in Miami, Florida.
Qualified suppliers may demonstrate their technologies on metal and/or
masonry surfaces. All surrogate surfaces provided by Florida
International University will not be radiologically contaminated,
however all demonstrations should proceed as if being used within a
nuclear facility. Technologies demonstrated will be evaluated based on
their performance with respect to surface removal depth, waste volume,
production rate and safety factors. The following is a description of
the masonry and metal test surfaces provided by FIU-HCET. Masonry:
Floors: 20 ft x 20 ft poured concrete Walls: 20 ft x 10 ft poured
concrete 20 ft x 10 ft brick Ceiling: 20 ft x 10 ft poured concrete
Metal: I-beams: W6x9, 10 ft long carbon steel Plates: 4 ft x 4 ft x
inch thick. Coating specs: Ply-Mastic primer (7 mils dry film
thickness) Ply-Thane 890 HS finish (1.5 mils dry film thickness)
Rust-O-Lastic primer (1.5 mils dry film thickness-metal only) Rust
specs: Grade D according to SSPC specifications. All technology vendors
supplying baseline and/or innovative methods of surface removal
decontamination are encouraged to submit a proposal for the
demonstration of their technology. To qualify as a supplier, a vendor
should have at least two years of operational experience with the
proposed technology and a minimum of five years of surface removal
experience. All qualified suppliers should provide FIU-HCET with a
letter of qualification stating the technology to be used, the
applicable surface(s) for the demonstration, themaximum removal depth
to be achieved, and any previous references. In addition, suppliers
should supply a contact person, their address, telephone, fax, and
e-mail or web site for follow up procedures. These documents must be
received no later than April 25, 1998. (0050) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0039 19980223\F-0006.SOL)
