A -- INDUSTRY WORKSHOP SOL N66604-98-R-9999 DUE 030398 POC L. Sciamacco Fandetti, Contracting Officer at (401) 841-2442 X202; FAX (401) 841-4820 WEB: Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport, http://www.npt.nuwc.navy.mil/contract/. E-MAIL: L. Sciamacco Fandetti, Contracting Officer, sciamacco@code59.npt.nuwc.navy.mil. The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) will be holding a two-day Industry Workshop on 10-11 March 1998. The purpose of this workshop is to present the role of Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUVs) in NUWC's vision of the future undersea battlespace and to highlight opportunities for industry participation. Key players in this vision are UUVs which will enhance the fleet's sensor capabilities and reach, while at the same time keeping manned platforms out of harm's way. Re-configurable UUVs capable of performing several tactically significant missions will be considered: surveillance and reconnaissance, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), and tactical oceanography; among others. There are several important technology areas which will enable this vision: full connectivity (acoustic and RF/satellite communications), sonar and nonacoustic sensing, above-water RF and visual sensing, sensor data fusion and tactical processing, autonomous target/object identification and classification, autonomous mission planning and vehicle control systems, energy storage, propulsion, quieting, and host platform interface (user interface/tactical display, platform mounting/interface, launch and recovery, combat system interface). The development and integration of these technologies to enable this vision are being pursued by NUWCDIVNPT. NUWC will present its plan for an Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Initiative (UUVI); this will consist of a detailed technology roadmap. NUWC's goal is to achieve widespread industry participation in the development, integration, demonstration, and evaluation of UUVI technology payloads and mission scenarios. A specific opportunity will involve integration and demonstration of industry technology payloads aboard NUWC testbed vehicles. Specific opportunities will be described for industry to invest Industry Research and Development (IR&D) and/or other discretionary funds that will focus on UUVI. Contractual opportunities for Technology Transfer, Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs), and partnerships will be briefed in detail. During the UUVI workshop, handouts will be distributed for industry review and comment. The second day of the UUVI workshop will be set aside for further one-on-one discussions and for tours of the NUWCDIVNPT complex. This Industry Workshop will be SECRET - U.S.ONLY. The Workshop will be held at Building 990, First Floor Conference Room, Newport, Rhode Island on 10-11 March 1998 from 07:30 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. local time. Personnel from other Government facilities, such as Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR), will also be attending the UUVI workshop. Please be advised that space may be limited. Interested contractors who plan on attending the UUVI workshop should provide the names of the individuals representing their company by 3 March 1998 to Patricia Malone, System Resource Management Inc., 1272 West Main Road, Green II, Middletown, RI 02842, Voice No. (401) 849-2913, Fax No. (401) 849-2993, E-mail SRM@edgenet.com (Attn: Patricia Malone).
