This requirement is for an annual firm-fixed price requirement contract to select and supply books to the Air University Library, serving professional military education organizations and having approximately 290,000 books and bound journals. The requirement is a commercial item procurement. The contractor will be expected to deveop a profile of the Air University Library from a contractor-furnished extensive subject terminology thesaurus of at least 6,000 subject terms in hierarchical format. Once having developed the profile, the contractor must review all newly published books and select an extremely wide range of books which fit the Air University Library's profile. The selected books (imprint monographs) are then shipped at contractor's expense to the Air University Library on an approval basis. Those approved are retained and purchased by the Library, totaling approximately $30,000.00 per year. Those not approved are returned to the contractor. In addition to purchasing through the approval plan,the Air University Library, each year, orders through firm orders an estimated $80,000.00 owth of books selected by the Air University Library staff. The Library also places an annual standing order (continuation's) for an estimated $30,000.00 worth of annual publications. The majority of approval plan, standing order, and firm order books must be readily available from stock. Proposals are requested on a percentage basis applied to publishers list price. This requirement will be for a base year and 4 one-year options. Delivery on the basic contract will be for the period 1 October 1998 through 30 September 1999. This requirement is an unrestricted procurement. Large and small businesses may participate. The Standard Industrial Classification is 5192. The small business size standard is 500 employees.
