Guard Maintenance and Logistics Command Pacific is seeking qualified
sources possessing a demonstrated in-water capability to correct or
otherwise mitigate the adverse affects of blade tip bends on large
propeller blades (machine castings of ASTM CA6NM stainless steel).
Coast Guard Icebreaker POLAR STAR sustained blade tip bends on one of
its 3 controllable pitch propellers (CPPs). Repair involves three of
the four blades (cast ASTM CA6NM stainless steel -- tensile strength of
110 ksi and yield point of 80 ksi) installed on Escher Wyss CPP hub (4
bladed propeller with overall diameter of 16 feet). Degree of blade
bends varies from approximately 60 to 90 degrees. The blades are not
readily detachable; the repairs must be performed while the ship
remains waterborne. Interested contractors able to perform these
repairs are asked to provide documentation/references which demonstrate
their experience and ability to perform such in water repairs. This
notice is solely for the purpose of developing a list of qualified
sources and does not announce a requirement. Qualified sources
responding to this sources sought notice will be added to the bidders
list for a Request for Quotations which will be issued at a future
