The Office of Law Enforcement Technology Commercialization (OLETC) was established by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to assist in the commercialization and utilization of US technology and innovation for use by the law enforcement and corrections (LEC) community. A Mock Prison Riot is being staged April 25 & 26,1998, at the closed West Virginia State Prison in Moundsville, West Virginia. The dual purpose of this event is to train corrections, law enforcement and emergency response personnel on tactics and procedures for controlling a prison uprising as well as to showcase and demonstrate numerous, innovative, and emerging technologies and products from leading US technology providers in multiple riot scenarios. This is an excellent opportunity for federal labs, universities and companies to showcase their emerging technologies to prospective corrections and law enforcement users and manufacturers in a real prison environment. National television and news media coverage is being provided.Your participation will require advance registration of both your candidate technology as well as your staff's attendance. This is required to insure your technology is appropriate for inclusion in the various riot scenarios. Examples of technologies of interest include, but are not limited to: locating and tracking sensors/systems, less than lethal weapons, crowd control devices, concealed weapons & contraband detection, officer protection, secure communications, interoperability techniques and others.
