Market Research: The Direct Reporting Program Manager (DRPM) for the Marine Corps Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) is conducting market research to determine the commercial availability of an alternate main engine for the AAAV. The engine must be qualified or available to complete qualification testing prior to 31 September 1999 in order to be eligible to conduct further durability and in-vehicle qualification testing following the AAAV program's milestone II decision. Engine selection will be made prior to LRIP award in the E&MD phase of the program. The target power of the engine is 2206 kW (minimum, steady load) at 2600 rpm with an engine BSFC of 230 g/kW-hr and 630 kW (steady load) at 2400 rpm with an engine BSFC of 228 g/kW-hr. The target maximum weight of the engine is 2800 kg. The engine must fit into a 1900 x 1100 x 1500 mm (l x w x h) enclosure and start/operate in -18 to +52 degrees C unassisted (down to -51 degrees C assisted). Target reliability/durability goals for the engine are: MTBF of 335 engine operating hours or greater, MTBMCF of 650 engine operating hours or greater, and a service life of 4500 engine operating hours or greater. The engine must operate with 15 mbar back pressure in the induction system and a 30 mbar back pressure in the exhaust system and on JP8, DF-1, DF-2, DF-A, JP5, and DFM fuels. Additional requirements include watertight integrity of all electrical components and smoke of 8% opacity or less, steady state (12% or less, transient). Additional Information is available from the AAAV point of contact, Mr. John Martin (703) 492-3329. The closing date for this request is 5 March 1998. Companies with an existing engine or who are currently developing an engine that would be available in the time frame noted above should provide design characteristics and performance data to: (U.S. Mail address) DIRECT REPORTING PROGRAM MANAGER, AAAV, ATTN: Mr. John Martin, 991 ANNAPOLIS WAY, WOODBRIDGE, VA 22191-1215.
