STABLE ISOTOPES PRIVATIZATION SOL #LLC090897 -- Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation (LMER), which operates the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE), currently markets, produces, sells, and distributes stable isotopes for medical and research applications. In support of DOE's goals for transferring this effort to the private sector, LMER will issue for comment a Draft Request for Proposal (RFP) for privatizing the production, packaging, marketing, sales, and distribution of stable isotopes. The objective for seeking proposals for this work is to minimize the Government's future cost for producing and distributing stable isotopes while at the same time assuring that adequate domestically-produced supplies of this isotope exist at reasonable prices. Production of stable isotopes must be accomplished in the existing facility located on the DOE Reservation in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. LMER will distribute the draft RFP on or about October 24, 1997; questions and comments will be due within 14 days of issuance of the draft RFP.
