36 -- MODE STRIPPER SOL N0042197Q5642 DUE 081397 POC Francine Keys, Purchasingin Agent (301) 342-8132 X22 The Patuxent River NAWC has a requirement to procure a Mode-Stirrer and installation. Specification: This specification establishes requirements for a vertically oriented mode-stirrer with a drive and controller and its installation in an existing 20" X 14' X 10" reflective chamber. The stirrer will be modified from that specified in MIL-STD-1344 in order to provide optimum distribution of the fields, horizontally and vertically. This stirrer and chamber will be used by the electromagnetic interference laboratory to perform radiated susceptibility, radiated emissions, and shielding effectiveness testing of equipment. Modification of the mode stirrer as specified in MIL-STD-1344. Stirrer shall be approximately eight (8) feet by four (4) feet. The stirrer shall be modified from that specified in MIL-STD-1344 in order to provide optimum distribution of the fields, horizontally and vertically. The paddles can be constructed of any lightweight, durable, highly reflective material. The drive unit shall be mounted extrnally to the shielded enclosure, and the drive mechanism fed through the enclosure wall via a shielded flange/baering assembly. Shielding effectiveness of the shaft penetration will be no less than 100 dB at 1GHz. The design of the paddles will be such that the paddle assembly can be removed by two (2) people in approximately 1/2 hour. The mode stirrer system will have a designed speed range of 0.001 RPM to 10 RPM. It shall be position settable to one degree increments with 0.1 degree resolution and accuracy. Control of the Mode Stirrer shall be typically via user supplied PC. Control to the Indexer (controller) shall be provided through an IEEE 488.2 interface port. DRIVE UNIT: type: direct drive brushless servo motor, power: 115 VAC single phase, Resolver feedback, resolution: greater than 507,904 steps per revolution, accuracy: +/-30 arc-sec (0.0083 degrees), repeatability: +/-5 arc-sec (0.0139 degrees), max stepping rate: 1,600,000 steps/sec, dynamic braking, configurable position accuracy to reduce settling time, fully protected against open and short circuits, INDEXER: 2 axes of step and direction control with encoder feedback, 1.6 MHz step output frequency, operates stand-alone or interface with PC's, one IEEE-488.2 interface port, SOFTWARE: Microsoft windowns (tm) based application development software, WARRANTY: Minimum 2 years unlimited on all system components, DOCUMENTATION: operator manuals and circuit schematics shall be provided with the system.
