The Library of Congress has a requirement for the digitization of pictorial collections and other visual media in order to permit the dissemination of historical materials online as a part of the National Digital Library Program. Scanning work to be performed either on site in one of the Library's Washington, DC buildings as LOT 1 or off site at a contractor facility as LOT 2. LOT 1 includes the creation of an estimated 216,000 digital image sets from transmitted-light materials, i.e., b&w and color negatives and transparencies, and reflected-light materials, i.e., cardboard mounted prints and baseball cards ranging in size from smaller than 1" x 2" to 11" x 17". The base requirement under LOT 2 requires creation of approximately 32,000 image sets from original nitrate film negatives and positives on 3-foot film strips which require a custom setup for capture of the 30-40 individual frames thereon; and an optional requirement for the creation of digital images of maps and map segment and concatenation from Cibachrome 105mm fiche. The spatial resolution of the images will range as high as 5000 x 4000 pixels and delivered sets of images shall be coherently and logically named and/or numbered and placed in delivery directories on write-once CD-ROM disks. One or two indefinite quantity task order contracts with a base and 2 option years is anticipated.
