This Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) the Federal Highway Administration's intention to sponsor research to develop a method or methods for Measurement of Chloride Penetration in Concrete. The broad objective of this research is to develop a new method(s) for predicting and measuring chloride ion penetration into portland cement concrete contained in bridges and highways, and to correlate the results from this new test(s) with AASHTO T 259 ponding test. The new method(s) will be used both in the laboratory and in the field; in the laboratory it will be used to predict the rate of chloride ion penetration into new concretes using laboratory members(such as but not limited to cylinders), while in the field it will be used to determine the extent to which the choride ions have penerated the concrete using cores taken from bridge or highway members.
