further information. This requirement is for the Electronic Drop Tube
(EDT) System which shall be able to collect and manage flight data
strip information directly from the Flight Data Input/Output (FDIO)
System. EDT shall be able to transfer flight strip information from the
O'Hare control tower to the Chicago TRACON at Elgin, Illinois by
microcomputer communication. The flight data information shall be
printed on a direct thermal printer in the TRACON. Modem communication
allows flight strip information from remote towers. EDT will eliminate
the need for mechanical drop tubes. The EDT shall interface directly to
the FDIO system for the collection of flight strip information. EDT
shall be a read-only interface. The EDT system shall consist of seven
touch screen panel stations and four printers. The EDT stations shall
consist of the following: 1) PC-compatible microcomputer with touch
screen panel; 2) Pre-configured with appropriate runway, annotation and
departure control selection for each facility; 3) On screen buttons
shall include call signs, runways, headings, visual separations and/or
two other annotation selections; 4) Provide a communication link at
airports with multiple towers or where the tower and TRACON are located
in separate buildings by using modem communication; 5) Transfer flight
data information to one specific printer as determined on the touch
screen; 6) Expandable to a maximum of 8 different printers. Parties
with the ability to provide this equipment should send documentation

for ability to provide required equipment. Information shall be
submitted by May 24, 1995. If documentation submitted is determined not
to meet the requirements of this requirement, it is the intent of the
Government to negotiate a contract with only one source under authority
of FAR 6.302. Information received will be considered solely for the
purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
