- Description
- The Navigation Simulators are the primary maritime navigation trainers at the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Training Center (TRACEN), Yorktown, Virginia. �They consist of a Full Mission Bridge Simulator (FMBS) for Cutter navigation training, and Small Boat Trainer (SBT) for Scalable Integrated Navigation System, 2nd generation (SINS2) operation, and boat handling training. �Both simulators have expansive fields of view provided by large flat-screen televisions (TV�s), and have their own helm console. �The FMBS realistically simulates underway large cutter navigation operations, utilizing two radar consoles, two Coast Guard Electronic Chart Display Information System (CGECDIS) consoles, and two �bridge wing� stations with virtual alidades, and virtual binoculars. The SBT consists of a single helm with SINS2, and nine other SINS2 consoles, utilized for in-depth SINS2 operation and familiarization, as well as small boat operations training. �The FMBS and SBT can be integrated in one inter-active scenario, or two separate stand-alone scenarios. �The simulation software is VirtualShip (known as VShip), provided by CSRA, LLC (a GDIT subsidiary). �VShip is utilized by the Coast Guard (CG), Navy, Army, Lockheed Martin, Sperry Marine, and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, to mention a few. �All VShip customers receive the same database/suite, so if one customer orders a certain ship or harbor, it is distributed to all via a support services contract. �The VShip suite currently has over 80 harbors, over 20 ownships, and over 100 traffic ships to offer
