Description
THIS IS AN INDUSTRY DAY ANNOUNCEMENT; ISSUED BY THE NAVAL SEA SYSTEMS COMMAND (NAVSEA), ON BEHALF OF THE SUPPORT SHIPS, BOATS, AND CRAFT PROGRAM OFFICE (PMS325) FOR INFORMATION AND PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY. I. SUMMARY On behalf of the Support Ships, Boats, and Craft Program Office (PMS325), the Naval Sea Systems Command announces an Industry Day for the Next Generation Logistics Ship (NGLS). The NGLS is planned to be a new class of ships to augment the current Combat Logistics Force ships, through the use of commercial ship designs tailored for military applications to conduct logistics missions. The Industry Day will be held on 25 June 2020, via teleconference. The Industry Day will be divided into two (2) sessions. Session 1 will be a Navy-led brief of the NGLS program and Session 2 will provide same-day answers to questions from Industry attendees. Industry attendees are encouraged to participate in both sessions; however, it is not required. An objective of this engagement is to gain feedback from industry. The Government will use information gathered from this Industry engagement event to promote further market research, advance its analysis of alternatives, and continue the development of program characteristics. The brief will inform industry of the mission and initial requirements of the NGLS, and provide early details of the program. The NGLS will enable refueling, rearming, and resupply of Naval assets afloat and ashore in support of Distributed Maritime Operations, Littoral Operations Contested Environment, and Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations. The NGLS is envisioned to be smaller than existing ships in the Combat Logistics Force, and will operate near contested environments, sustaining afloat (Surface Action Group) and ashore (Expeditionary Advanced Base) requirements. The Navy believes that there are several types of commercial vessels that may be able to perform these missions (including, but not limited to: Platform Supply Vessels, Fast Supply Vessels, or other types of Offshore Support Vessels). The Navy is considering conversion of existing vessels, new construction, or a combination of conversions and new construction in order to acquire the required number of Next Generation Logistics Ships. II.
