Description
The Virology & Emerging Infections Department of the U.S. Naval Medical and Research Unit No. 6 (NAMRU-6) conducts laboratory processes for diagnostics of pathogens from human and animal samples. For these processes, our laboratory is increasing their capabilities for viral identification-quantification procedures and the amount of samples for emerging diseases surveys that are already in use, therefore it is necessary to refill reagents such as ethyl alcohol, Tween 20, Phosphate buffered saline, Trypan Blue solution, FITC Conjugate goat antimouse IgG and B-propiolactone required in various assays for molecular biology in order to continue the use of current standard protocols, with their own chemical reagents that are developed and keep the high quality of our results. Reagents such as Antibiotic Antimycotic Solution 100x and Fetal Bovine Serum heat inactivated are both media supplement, which provide a wide array of functions in different types of cell culture media. They deliver nutrients, growth and attachment factors and protect cells from oxidative damage and apoptosis by mechanisms that are difficult to reproduce in systems. Antibiotic Antimycotic solution and fetal bovine serum have been used as a supplement in different types of cell culture media. Reagents used must remain the same as the ones indicated in the SOPs, otherwise the design and validation of these processes would have to be initiated from zero, which would delay all processing and the timely diagnosis of public health relevant pathogens.
