- Volcano Sensor Package Development. This is a Notice of Intent to Award a Sole Source Order to Black Swift Technologies Inc., Boulder, CO. The requirement is for the development of an advanced sensor package with volcano observation flights for the USGS Volcano Science Center, Vancouver, WA 98683. To the knowledge of the USGS, Black Swift Technologies, Inc. is the only source capable of meeting all the described requirements below. Develop a highly robust intermediate-size fixed-wing UAS with a flight ceiling of 15,000 ft, an endurance of 90 minutes with a 5 lb payload, a large (8 ¿ x 12 ¿) payload section, the ability to fly in temperatures down to -20 C and corrosive environments, the ability to operate without a runway, and the ability to quickly create flight patterns specific to atmospheric sampling that are dynamically adaptable while in flight. Develop and integrate interchangeable UAS nose cones with volcano monitoring sensors that include gas sensors for CO2, SO2, H2S, an upward-looking ultraviolet (UV) spectrometer, a 3D wind sensor, sensors for temperature, RH, and pressure, GPS, as well as a nadir photogrammetry camera and RTK geotagging capabilities, and a gimbaled or forward-looking video camera.
