Description
The Idaho National Lab (INL) has developed a high temperature irradiation resistant thermocouple (HTIR-TC) fabrication method (United States Patent No. 7871198B2) and a procedure for optimizing heat treat and calibration of such thermocouples (Patent Pending). The HTIR-TC brings forth a unique chemical blend of refractory metals to withstand the harsh environments consistent with neutron flux (i.e. a nuclear reactor). Further, the refractory metals being utilized have longevity characteristics over other non-refractory metal thermocouples (type K, N, B, etc). The range of temperatures measured are above 1200C and below 1800C for long periods of time (4000 hours) with minimal drift (<2%). This presents a twenty-fold improvement over other commercially available thermocouples. The HTIR TC is mainly applicable in the high neutron flux environments of reactor design and operation, but due to it's longevity capabilities at very high temperatures any high temperature application is pertinent to this technology (i.e. aerospace, metallurgical processes, etc.) The INL is soliciting interest from qualified industrial firms interested in participating in projects to commercialize this technology. It is anticipated that the project will be carried out through a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with funding support provided by the participant(s). The INL has one issued patent and another patent pending on this technology which may be licensed exclusively or non-exclusively. The INL invites interested parties to contact us regarding the details of development and licensing of this technology. Interested parties should respond on or before January 31st, 2019. NOTE: THIS NOTICE WAS NOT POSTED TO FEDBIZOPPS ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (10-JAN-2019); HOWEVER, IT DID APPEAR IN THE FEDBIZOPPS FTP FEED ON THIS DATE. PLEASE CONTACT 877-472-3779 or fbo.support@gsa.gov REGARDING THIS ISSUE.
