Description

SLAC seeks vendors that can provide a dilution refrigerator (DR) system to be used in testing and operation of superconducting sensors and readout for Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) cameras. CMB cameras require cryogenic refrigeration and are routinely operated in high-altitude (10,000 ft+) deserts such as the Chilean Andes or South Pole Station in Antarctica for 3-5 years with minimal human intervention. SLAC, is therefore seeking interest from vendors that can produce a DR system (technical specification in RFP/SOW pending) with the following characteristics: •Complete liquid-cryogen-free cryostat system with pre-installed dilution refrigerator, pulse-tube cooler, thermometry, gas handling, and control/readout electronics. •Base temperature of 10 mK at experimental stage, and provide 400 microwatts of cooling power at 100 mK. •Extremely high duty cycle, maintenance-free operation at least 3 years. •Vibration isolation built into design. •Have a demonstrated track record of reliability and ease-of-use in fielded CMB cameras such as BICEP, South Pole Telescope (SPT), Cosmology Large Angular Scale Surveyor (CLASS), Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT), POLARBEAR etc. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR QUOTE.
