- Sources Sought for Vibrating Sample Magnetometer The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) has a requirement for a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) for the ECF. This VSM will primarily be used for testing inks and pigments, but will also have the ability to test other materials used in the process of producing currency. The VSM will also be used for quality control of magnetic ink supplied by vendors and for reconstituted magnetic ink recycled from production. A VSM is important for the characterization and quantification of the magnetic characteristics of a material, which is necessary for quality assurance of US banknote ink.
