- The Navy Crane Center and the four public Navy shipyards are interested in holding an Industry Forum to discuss Portal (Whirly) Crane procurements. It has been recognized that the Portal Crane industry has changed in the past 20 years, and we are in the process of examining some of the Navys requirements to determine how they align with industry and commercial cranes. Therefore, the Navy is interested in inviting you to an Industry Forum to discuss the current state of Portal Crane design and how business is performed in your industry today. The goal of this forum is to re-asses how the Navy approaches Portal Crane specifications by identifying issues that are responsible for driving up cost and design time, to bridge the gap between the Navy and the crane industry, and to promote competition by better aligning crane specifications with industry standards. Please respond to the following questions by COB 29 September 2017. Reponses should be forwarded via email to Lisa Sumpter at lisa.sumpter@navy.mil. - Would your company be willing to send a representative, at your expense, to a 1 to 2 day Portal Crane Industry Forum at location [TBD but expected to be held on the east coast]? - Would your company be willing to participate in a 1 to 2 day Portal Crane Industry Forum via video conference/telephone conference? If interested, please provide the best POC from your company to coordinate this Industry Forum. The response should include the company name and POC name/phone number/email. Participation in any potential Industry Forum related to this notice is not to be construed as either a commitment by the Government to procure any items or services, or for the Government to pay costs for any information received. Participation in any potential Industry Forum related to this notice is at the sole expense of the respondent.
