- The Frances Perkins Building is the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Labor and has an approximate gross area of 2M sqft. The building was built in the nineteen seventies. A study has been done recently by the DOL Safety Specialists to determine the locations where railings and other measures are needed to provide fall protection and prevent injuries to persons who may be in areas where modifications are needed. The project shall provide measures such as improved grating at the Air Intake North of the fountain on 3rd St. NW fall protection railings around this grating and above the entrance to the north garage. New improved grating on air exhaust at D St, NW with an access hatch and ladder to the shaft floor below, fall protection railing on both sides of the entrance to the east garage on D St, NW. Fall protection railings on the south side along Constitution Ave, NW around the secretary's area and improvement to two staircase railings serving the DOL child care center for fall protection.
