Description
This notice is provided for informational purposes only. On September 29, 2016, NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) awarded a firm-fixed price contract to The University of Iowa for the effort entitled "Technologies for Indicating System Status and Dependencies during Complex Non-Normal Situations." The award was not previously synopsized by the original buyer. This award resulted from a competitive selection under the NASA Headquarters released NASA Research Announcement (NRA) NNH15ZEA001N for foundational research in support of the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD), entitled "Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA) 2015", Appendix B.2 Airspace Technology Demonstration (ATD) Project, Subtopic 2.2 Technologies for Indicating System Status and Dependencies during Complex Non-Normal Situations. The scope of this contract is to investigate and develop flight deck systems and supporting display interface technologies that can enhance flight crew awareness of system status and the interaction of systems, particularly in non-normal situations involving failures in one or more systems. This effort will explore and develop new solution concepts that can reduce the likelihood of loss of airplane state awareness by flight crews related to aircraft energy and attitude awareness. The impact of this research is to reduce accident and incident rates for commercial aviation.
