- JOFOC associated with BWXT Contract Award The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded a sole source firm fixed price contract to BWXT Nuclear Energy, Incorporated to determine the feasibility and affordability of a Low Engriched Uranium (LEU) based Nuclear Thermal Propulsion (NTP) engine with solid cost and scheduled confidence on July 26, 2017. This contract is part of a larger NTP Project managed by Marshall Space Flight Center under the NASA Headquarters Space Technology Mission Directorate, Game Changing Development Program. The scope of work to be performed within this contract will further the design of the NTP LEU Ceramic Metallic engine in the most efficent manner while continuing to reduce and possibly eliminate risks on the project. BWXT Nuclear Energy, Incorporated possesses the unique knowledge, skills, experience, and facilities necessary to perform this effort. The contract was awarded to BWXT Nuclear Energy, Incorporated located in Charlotte, North Carolina, however, the scope of work shall be performed at their facility located in Lynchburg, Virginia.
