Description
Energetic Equipment Sustainment The Explosives Development Branch (EDB), Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the leader for explosives scale-up, formulation development, energetic processes and prototypes in support of fielding new energetic materials into U.S. Army munitions. Every aspect of the EDB mission is founded on the use of modern process equipment and mechanical systems that facilitate development activities at different phases of research. From molecular synthesis to munitions production, explosion-proof systems are necessary to process energetic material in a safe and efficient environment. The existing explosion-proof equipment list is long and varied, including: blade and acoustic mixers, hydraulic presses; CNC and conventional lathes, mills, and various machining platforms; drying and curing ovens, sensitivity test devices, optical and CNC inspection stations, synthesis reactors, scale-up kettles, and more. Virtually all the explosion-proof equipment has some ancillary subsystem(s) that supports a particular operation including: power and force generation, thermal conditioning, booth containment, remote control, A&V monitoring, fire suppression, supervisory control and data acquisition, and more. Both at the system and sub-system level, the EDB needs a reliable equipment sustainment capability that covers all phases of process development. Therefore, the EDB seeks to contract for the lifecycle sustainment of all energetic equipment and mechanical sub-systems. The scope of services includes design and engineering, fabrication, installation, repair and maintenance, refurbishment, or other related services.
