- Service Life Assessment Program (SLAP) Phase B4 consists of tasks required for the lifing of F/A-18E/F models. This effort addresses the structural life assessment for the fuselage, vertical tail and wings. The United States Navy (USN) has defined a need to fly the F/A-18E/F beyond the original design of the 6,000 hours service life. Service Life Assessment Program (SLAP) B4 provides the foundation to determine what life extension is feasible. SLAP will utilize a list of airframe Hot Spots that have been pre-determined for analysis. : A significant portion of the airframe is believed to have additional inherent capability, and a life extension may be possible for many portions of the airframe. The service life may also be extended where needed by performing inspections or retrofits/replacement of parts. The Service Life Assessment Program (SLAP) provides an assessment of fatigue safe lives against SLAP goals for structure affected by flight maneuver, catapults, arrestments and landings, based on actual usage.
